The show’s ratings did NOT fall that sharply between s3 and s4; however, the decline was noticeable enough to lead SR to put them together permanently by the end of s4.
Yes they did fall that sharply between s3 and s4. And it was also because of the writers’ strike. S5 then fell sharply again because of that. (writers’ strike cut s4 short)
No it didn’t. They didn’t lose 12 mil viewers, they lost like 4.5-5 million. It was sharp, but not the 12M in the OP.
Nope. I posted the numbers. They lost SEVEN million straight in the number of average viewers (which means the fall was FAR sharper episode on episode because the median includes high rated episodes like premieres and finales) between s3 and s4. And then another two million come s6. And then it kept going down until the current numbers. They went from an average of 22 mln in s3 to 15 mln in s4. Seven million GONE sharply in average from one season to the other.
yes Grey’s was like the MUST WATCH Tv show .. I remember everyone talked about it when I was young and it had a big rating srop because of MerDer’s breakup and back and forth.
It was not just that, the show sucked all around in s3, much like Scandal. The one story that tanked it the most, on top of the Merder stupidity, was GIZZIE. George and Izzie getting involved romantically out of absolutely nothing because they were always besties and it felt incestuous to most of the viewers. LOL I remember the comments on that… if you think the OJ comments are bad, try those back in the day. And there was the whole Burke and Christina debacle too. The whole season was absolute crap and in fact I stopped watching at the end of s3 because of said reasons.
OH also the exact numbers are 22.3 million average for s3 to a 15.4 million average for s4 and then 15.1 in s5. Then another two million went pouf in s6, down to an average of 13.2 million. And that’s directly from Nielsen. The advantage of being into business data since back then ;)
I have watched Grey’s on and off since it started. I worked at night for 5 years, so I have years I virtually skipped some seasons. I agree with you though about when the show went downhill and the problem is with Scandal they do not have as many fans to begin with, so the fear that they could get canceled is real especially with the possibility of going up against the NFL. I have not deiced if I am watching next year or not. I am going to take the summer to make up my mind. I am a little two raw emotionally to makeup my mind right now.
They’re not gonna get cancelled, but going up against the NFL (and they WILL do that unless they move to another day) means the ratings WILL go down. And I don’t see Scandal lasting past a s5 in any case. Five seasons is the MAXIMUM they can do with it.
